About RRTT
Since its inception in 1969, the
Department of Psychiatry at the University
of California, San Diego has developed into one of the most
innovative and productive academic
departments of psychiatry in the country. This department
encourages and supports training in research and includes research
as part of the essential
curriculum for all residents during their UCSD experience.
Research-oriented grand rounds, seminars, and journal clubs are some
of the opportunities provided by
this department.
For those residents who are interested in exploring academic
research careers the department
provides a world class Research Residency Training Track (RRTT)
to blend clinical and research training. This RRTT provides research
experience which is comprehensive,
diverse and rigorous. The training integrates clinical
phenomena with laboratory investigation.
With dedicated research time increasing progressively throughout the
residency, these residents obtain all of the same benefits of the
essential clinical training
provided to the non-RRTT participants, as well as the additional
benefits of extensive research
experience and research mentorship with internationally
recognized experts.
RRTT participants leave the residency with an outstanding education
giving them the experience to
enjoy the wide range of opportunities offered to those seeking
careers in academic medicine. The RRTT is supported, in part, by the
Department of Psychiatry and
through an NIH grant specifically for the training of residents
who wish to pursue academic research careers.
