Selection Process Time Commitment Study Project About RRTT Resources

      

       Protected Research Time                       Dedicated Research Time RRTT  

      PGY-1: Primarily clinical work: choose research mentor and attend laboratory meetings
      when possible

      PGY-2: Primarily clinical work, but with 2 months of the year set aside for research in the
      laboratory of your choice

      PGY-3: Time dedicated to research increases to 40%

      PGY-4: Time dedicated to research increases to 80%

      PGY-5: (OPTIONAL) Six fellowship programs in the Department of Psychiatry are available
      for further training in research methods.

      Chief Resident - The department designates a PGY-4 as Chief Resident each year
      specifically to represent RRTT residents and to assist with RRTT resident recruitment,
      selection and education.

      In addition, the Chief Resident:

      Updates in Patient Oriented Research

             Faculty experts from the Department introduce all residents and medical students
            at the VA Medical Center to the interface between clinical care and the latest
            advances in mental illness.

             Includes Teaching Modules on cutting-edge research techniques and Journal Club
            discussions.

      Plans and runs Introduction to Patient-Oriented Research

            Required component of Psychiatry clerkship for MS IIIs

           Provides individualized, hands-on training in formulating question/ summarizing answers
           from literature

           Train in delivering brief research presentation of findings
